Twistgrip Motorcycles were established in 1978. The current owner, Alan Cooper started working for Twistgrip in 1985 and bought the business 5 years later. Prior to becoming the owner Alan had combined his career at Twistgrip with being a regular competitor in motorcycle road racing. This he did with much success winning many races, championships and a few lap records along the way.
After hanging up his leathers Alan continued his involvement with the sport by sponsoring a number of riders. Current British Superbike rider Francis Williamson successfully rode for Twistgrip for two seasons and in 1993 Kevin Wholey won the U.K. Riders National Championship on a Twistgrip Motorcycles TZ250.
